Dr. Afua Mohamed holds a Doctor of Technology degree in Electrical Engineering from Cape Peninsula University of Technology in Cape Town, South Africa. She also completed a Bachelor and Msc Eng. in Electrical & Electro Mechanics Engineering, majoring in electrical machines and controls.
Dr. Mohamed is currently working with Tanzania Commission for Science and Technology (COSTECH) as a senior research officer in the directorate of innovation, entrepreneurship and competitiveness. She is also a coordinator of the COSTECH Zanzibar office. As a senior research officer, she coordinates research, technology, and innovation in the country and in Zanzibar.
Before joining COSTECH she worked as a Lecturer at the Dar es Salaam Institute of Technology and has sixteen years’ experience teaching various subjects in electrical, telecommunication, and computer engineering departments.
She has been supervising, coordinating, guiding, and mentoring Engineering students in their projects and thesis. She has also been involved in reviewing scientific papers and thesis in the Electrical and related fields. She has been involved in various research studies and projects and serves on various committees and bodies such as ICT Commission and Office of Chief Government Statistics (OCGS).
Her research interest is in electrical energy management, especially in the industrial sector in the area of power factor correction, and energy efficient gadgets such as energy efficient motors and smart meters.
